Woodwalton Stud

Woodwalton Stud started in the early 1990s with one Thoroughbred broodmare (Woodwalton Foxfire) and a Trakehner filly foal (Holme Grove Fabienne).  Since then the stud has concentrated on producing athletic pure and part bred Trakehners.  In 2000, the first foal from a mare bred by the stud was born - Woodwalton Fabuloso (by Holme Grove Prokofiev out of Woodwalton Fleurduc).  Although known as Frosty, Fabuloso is living up to  his full name, being placed first in the 2 year old class at the Trakehner Breeders Fraternity Show in 2002 and then in 2003 going from being unbacked to ridden loose in one week!

After Frosty's birth, there was a lull in the breeding programme while the first youngsters started their ridden training.  Now, having confirmed the temperament and rideability of the Woodwalton stock, the breeding programme restarted in 2004 with 2 foals born.  One foal is pure Trakehner (by Godington Hannibal) while, in an exciting change for the stud, the other is by the young Sports Pony Studbook Society (SPSS) dressage stallion, Bernwode Brokat, with the aim being to breed a small dressage horse with both athletic ability and an excellent temperament.  The Stud was so pleased with the Bernwode Brokat foal (Woodwalton Bhaltair) that both mares are now (hopefully!) in foal to him for 2005!

Bernwode Brokat so impressed that as well as using him as a stallion this year, the Stud has purchased his 3 week old son from Hill Cottage Farm Stud.  The colt has been named Woodwalton Bahadur and is known as Bart.  As can be seen in the picture, even at only 3 hours old Bart was already showing his father's 'look at me' attitude.  Bart arrived at the stud on weaning in November 2003.
