Saffron of Woodwalton is a 16hh Thoroughbred cross Irish Draft, who was rescued by the Stud in 1996 at the age of three.  Saffron had been kept in a pigsty and was very underdeveloped.  Given time and correct feeding, Saffron matured into a nice mare who was backed and schooled by Bev Wing.  Having proved to be calm, willing and trainable, Saffron is currently on loan (although she remains with the other broodmares at the Stud) and on 22 May 2004 she had a colt foal (Woodwalton Bhaltair) by the Weser Ems pony stallion Bernwode Brokat.  Balti is Saffron's first foal and she is proving to be an excellent mum.
